Doguwa contested under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) declaring him winner by the returning officer, Professor Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai with 39,732 votes while his closest rival Yushau Salisu Abdullahi who contested under the New Nigerian People’s Party NNPP polled 34,798 votes.
Law experts revealed that Section 65 of the Electoral Act, 2022, stated that: “The Commission shall have the power, within seven days, to review the declaration and return where it determines that the said declaration and return was not made voluntarily or made contrary to the provisions of the law, regulations and guidelines, and manual for the election.”
A video that went viral social media shows the returning officer, Prof. Yakasai declaring the results in fear and shaky voice.
Doguwa was arrested by the Police three days after the election and was charged to court over allegations of inciting elections violence in his constituency which resulted in the killings of about eighteen persons.
On their part the Kano police command confirmed the killing of three persons and the burning of the secretariat of the NNPP in Tudun wada, was set ablaze with two persons burnt to death.
Doguwa was charged to court on three counts bothering on arson, murder, unlawful possession of firearms.
A federal high court sitting sitting in Kano however, grant the embattled Doguwa bail to the tune of N500 million, barring him from traveling out of the country and visiting his constituency during the forth coming gubernatorial and state assembly elections.
