I am Sorry, Orubebe Tells Nigerians

by Our Reporter

Godsday Orubebe, former minister of Niger Delta affairs and the Peoples

Democratic Party (PDP) agent for the presidential election, has apologised
to Nigerians for his outburst at the national collation centre of the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Orubebe, through his Twitter @ElderGOrubebe, said: “At ICC, the event and
outburst of yesterday is regrettable. Apologies to fellow Nigerians.”
‎

The national collation centre at the International Conference Centre
(ICC), Abuja, was in uproar on Tuesday, as Orubebe hurled invective at
Attahiru Jega, chairman of INEC, alleging that he had colluded with the
All Progressives Congress (APC) to falsify the results of the presidential
election.

“PDP has been observing with pains the manner you have been handling some
issues‎,” he screamed.

“We are beginning to see that you are partial and tribalistic. The PDP has
lost confidence in what you are doing. We have lost confidence in you
because you are partial and selective.”

Orubebe vowed to disrupt the further announcement of the results, asking
Jega to respond to the issues raised by the PDP in a letter to the
commission previously. ‎In a fit of rage, the former minister of
Niger Delta affairs said to Jega:

“You are tribalistic, you are partial. Until something is done, we cannot
allow you to continue the process.”

Responding, the INEC chairman explained that he did not receive any
petition from the PDP, stating that the party, through one of its agent,
Bello Fadile had tried to submit a petition to him on Monday while
collation was going on, but he rejected it owing to the reason that it did
not follow the right channel.

On the allegation of colluding with the APC to falsify results‎,
Jega simply said: “I do not give results to anybody. “I have not given
anybody any result and I have not seen any result.”
