As political horse tradings and coalition talks continue across various political parties, the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai ufai, has affirmed that he will not contest any political position in the 2027 general elections.
He urged young people in Kaduna and across the country to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise, noting that their participation was crucial to changing the political landscape.
El-Rufai ufai made this known in Kaduna on Wednesday while receiving defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party into the African Democratic Congress.
He said his renewed involvement in politics was not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to support credible leadership at all levels.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory explained that his initial plan after leaving office in 2023 was to step away from partisan politics.
He, however, said unfolding national developments compelled him to return, stressing that his focus was now on mentoring young people, women, and reform-minded Nigerians to actively participate in governance.
“I am not contesting for anything. I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not seeking any position.
“When I finished my tenure as governor, I intended to rest. But given the way things have turned out, I believe we must play our part to bring about better leadership. That is why we are back in politics,” he said.
Pointblanknews.com had reported that El-Rufai was one of the Buharists that expressed exclusion from President Bola Tinubu’s government.
He later joined the coalition of politicians who have expressed determination to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
