Vice President Kashim Shettima has landed in London to oversee the repatriation of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari’s body to Nigeria for burial.
Shettima reportedly departed Nigeria around midnight on Sunday and touched down in the United Kingdom on Monday morning. Upon arrival, he was received by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuff Tuggar, along with Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum and the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Following the confirmation of Buhari’s passing on Sunday at approximately 4:30 p.m. after a prolonged illness in a UK hospital, President Bola Tinubu immediately ordered Shettima to lead the delegation tasked with bringing back the remains of the late leader.
The former President’s body is scheduled to arrive in Nigeria later today, where it will be accorded full state burial honours.
Meanwhile, President Tinubu has called for an emergency meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) to discuss the federal government’s role and level of participation in the funeral proceedings.
