Kidnapped Okonjo Iweala’s Mother Released

Reports from Delta State and some close associates of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala have confirmed that the mother of the Minister, Prof. Dr. Kanene Okonjo have been released by her abductors.

Armed kidnappers numbering about 10  kidnapped the mother of the Minister of Finance around the palace of her husband, Professor Chukwuka Okonjo the ruler of Ogwashi-Uku.

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan had assured the royal family of Professor Obi Chukwuka Okonjo and the entire people of Ogwashi-Uku that Prof. Kamene Okonjo, mother of the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, would be returned safely and in good state of health.

Sources told Pointblanknews.com that Security forces broke into the hide-out of the kidnappers and freed Prof. Dr. Okonjo. It was not immediately clear if the kidnappers were arrested.

Press Secretary to the Delta State Governor, Mr. Felix Ofou when contacted said information at his disposal indicated the abducted mother of the Finance Minister has been released but he cannot authoritatively confirm.

“I have received the information too that she has been released but I cannot authoritatively confirm. I am still trying to reach my colleagues to ascertain the authenticity of the report.”
