Maiduguri the Borno state capital is gradually witnessing another dangerous trend of Crime despite attacks by Boko Haram group as unidentified gunmen kidnapped a former Council Chairman threatening to kill him if the state government fails to pay N50 million ransom .
Alhaji Mustapha Gadobe, ex- chairman of Abadam local council of Borno state, was on Friday kidnapped by unknown gunmen pointblankews.com gathered from security Operatives.
Gadobe was said to have been kidnapped near a Maiduguri suburb called Wadiya and was hurriedly bundled into his Toyota FJ Cruiser and driven to unknown destination.
Sources close to the Borno state government House confirmed to Pointblanknews.com that a serving member of Borno state house of Assembly is currently mediating between the kidnappers and Borno state government.
A top political appointee revealed that the abductors threatened to terminate the life of their hostage when the said mediator offered a N3 million cash payment as against the N50 million earlier demanded.
‘We learnt that the family members of the former council chairman and the mediator had on Saturday offered to pay N3 million an offer that was said to have vexed the kidnappers who vowed to kill Gadobe should such ridiculous amount be mentioned again’, said the source.
It was also learnt that another offer of N10 million was yesterday offered to the abductors which was still turned down.
A Senior security personnel of the State Security Services (SSS) confirmed the abduction to pointblanknews.com on phone but declined details of steps being taken to rescue Gadobe.
