The Kwankwasiyya Movement has announced a nationwide directive for its members to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as its leader, Rabiu Kwankwaso, concludes plans to exit the New Nigeria Peoples Party(NNPP).
The movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Sale Mohammed, disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the move forms part of a broader political realignment involving Kwankwaso and a coalition seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
The development is expected to end months of speculation about the political direction of the strongman of Kano politics.
He further stated that Kwankwaso is scheduled to formally register with the ADC on Monday, March 30, 2026, at his residence in Kano, marking the official commencement of his defection process.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement wishes to formally inform all its members across Nigeria and the general public that our Supreme Leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has concluded all necessary arrangements to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” the statement said.
It added, “In furtherance of this decision, he will officially register with the party on Monday, 30th March 2026, at his residence, Gidan Kwankwasiyya, Miller Road, Kano, by 12pm.”
The movement subsequently directed its members to begin registration with the ADC across their respective wards, local government areas and states.
“Consequently, all members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement are hereby directed to proceed and register with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in their respective wards, local government areas, and states immediately thereafter,” the statement added.
Members were also urged to actively participate in party activities and contribute to the growth of the ADC at all levels.
Describing the move as strategic, the group said it was taken in the best interest of the movement and the country, stressing its commitment to democratic values and good governance.
“This strategic decision, as always, has been taken in the best interest of the movement, our state, and the nation at large.
“It reflects our unwavering commitment to the advancement of democratic values, good governance, and the collective aspirations of the people,” the statement noted.
The development marks a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape, coming amid growing alliances and defections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
