A major political realignment may be underway in Kano State following a high-level meeting involving the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and key figures within the Kwankwasiyya political movement.
The Director General, Protocol Directorate of the Kano State Government House, Abdullahi Rogo, disclosed that stakeholders at the meeting reached a consensus that former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside the current governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, should defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Rogo, the agreement was reached after extensive deliberations with lawmakers and influential members of the Kwankwasiyya bloc, signaling what could become one of the most significant political shifts in the state’s recent history.
“After our meeting with the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and other members of Kwankwasiyya, we agreed that Kwankwaso and Kano State Governor Abba K. Yusuf should join the APC,” Rogo said.
He noted that the decision reflects ongoing consultations aimed at strengthening political cooperation and fostering unity within Kano’s political landscape.
Although no official timetable has been announced for the proposed defection, Rogo’s remarks have already sparked political reactions, with analysts describing the development as a potential game-changer ahead of future electoral contests in Kano State and beyond.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Kwankwaso nor Governor Yusuf has publicly responded to the statement.
