Mark Lauds Delta Govt. For Returning Schools To Missionaries

Senate President David Mark on Friday commended Delta government for deeming it appropriate to return some of the secondary schools to the missionaries.

Mark, who made the commendation while commissioning an Ultra-Modern Classroom blocks at St. Patrick’s College, Asaba said that sound education remained the best legacy any government could bequeath to the people.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Delta government has returned about 40 secondary schools to the missionaries in the last one year and St. Patrick’s College is among the schools.

He said that the missionaries were capable of turning the educational system of the state to an enviable height by returning its lost glory.

According to him, education is the best investment any government can embark upon and you cannot talk about quality education without, infrastructure and qualified teachers.

“The infrastructure development also affects children and once we invest in education, then we have given children the best.’’

He thanked the governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan for giving him the opportunity to inaugurate the school and urged him to ensure the completion of other projects in the state.

Earlier, Uduaghan said that the state government was committed to human capital development, adding the government had provided a platform to ensure that every child in the state would have access to education.

According to him, the government is responsible for funding education from primary to secondary levels.

“We ensure that every child has access to education. We are currently handling about 500 schools projects, some of which are completed while the others are ongoing.’’

He said that though government had built and completed the St. Patrick’s College, it had been handed over to the missionaries.

The State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare said that the massive construction and renovation of schools was to provide the pupils and students with a conducive learning atmosphere.

“The structure before us accommodates 24 classrooms, a Principal office, Vice Principals office, staff rooms, library, laboratories and a well equipped information communication technology centre,’’ Muoboghare said. (NAN)
