The Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Ikamatis Suunah (JIBWIS), has
described as a security threat the Biafra agitation and recent Shi’ite
attitude in the country.
The Islamic group stated this at a press briefing by its leader,
Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir, frowned at the attitude of the Igbo tribe
and religious organisations.
Jingir said: “Izala have for the past thirty years been preaching and
calling on the attention of government to be wary of the Shi’ite
activities in Nigeria, because they pose security threat.
“Izala condemned the clash that happened between the Shiite and
military in Zaria, but blockage of access road by any organisation
without permission whether in the north or south, is a violation of
laws, and infringement on the fundamental rights of other Nigerians.”
He said the agitation for Biafra by a particular tribe in Nigeria is,
“condemnable and is also a threat to the security of Nigeria and
Nigerians.”
Jingir called on the government to be careful in handling such
sensitive situations for the overall security and peace of the
country.
The cleric called on the government to set up an independent committee
to inquire the unfortunate incident of the Shi’ite-Military clash, he
however said the government should be careful in its selection of
those that it will constitute in the committee.
