Remember Maj. General. Ahmadu Mohammed, GOC 7 Division NA, Maiduguri, who
was shot at by angry soldiers in 2014? Recall Pointblanknews.com broke the
story on the rebellion?
Well, he has been reinstated, thanks to his connection to the all-powerful
Minister of Interior, General Abdulrahman Bello Dambazzau.
Under normal conditions, General Mohammed should have been retired, having
been allegedly responsible for the massacre, in an ambush by Boko Haram
terrorists, of several soldiers.
However, investigations revealed that Generals Mohammed and Dambazzau are
brothers in-law. Dambazzau’s late wife is said to be the elder sister of
Mohammed’s wife.
Dambazzau, who loves to flaunt his influence, sources say, had always
boasted to all that he was responsible for General Tukur Burataiý’s
appointment as Chief Of Army Staff, COAS.
The Nigerian Army had sacked the army commander whose unit opened fire
on him.
Sources had said the Soldiers became angry when they saw the bodies of 12
of their colleagues being brought back from Chibok. Boko Haram fighters
had killed the soldiers after the militants ambushed a convoy of soldiers
returning from duties in Chibok in 2014.
A spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Major General Chris Olukolade had
announced the removal of the General Officer commanding the 7th Division.
General Officer Commanding the then newly created 7 Division of Nigerian
Army, escaped death by the whiskers when soldiers under his command fired
shots at him.
The mutiny, which occurred in Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State
capital, may be the biggest “friendly” blow yet on Nigerian Army’s war
against Boko Haram terrorists.
However, Mohammed’s bodyguards and aides were not so lucky as they
sustained gunshot wounds from the angry soldiers.
The attack on the General and his men reportedly occurred when the GOC
visited the cantonment.
Maimalari cantonment is headquarters of 7 Division, the newest Division of
Nigerian Army.
Military sources had told Pointblanknews.com that soldiers at the
cantonment had been complaining of insufficient ammunition, food and good
allowances prior to the GOC’s visit.
They were also reportedly unhappy and their morale at its lowest because
there has not been troop rotation for a long time since their deployment
to combat Boko Haram terrorists in the North East.
“The GOC’s visit coincided with the arrival of the corpses of soldiers
killed in an ambush in Chibok on Tuesday night.
“The apparently agitated soldiers, on sighting the corpses of their slain
colleagues became hysteric. Some opened fire on the GOC, who was lucky to
have escaped unhurt. However, the bullets hit and seriously injured some
of his bodyguards, who also fled to safety,” the source offered.
