Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has filed a new petition accusing Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and Sandra Duru of criminal conspiracy, defamation, and cyber-related offences.
The petition was submitted simultaneously to the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
In the petition dated 15th May 2025 and filed by her legal team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Sen. Ehiogie West-Idahosa, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged that Senator Akpabio and Dr. Duru orchestrated a deliberate and malicious campaign aimed at undermining her reputation and endangering her life.
The senator accused Dr. Sandra Duru, who operated under the pseudonym “Prof. Mgbeke,” of initially posing as an ally before demanding payment to fabricate narratives and mobilise digital support.
The petition details a disturbing escalation, including cyber-stalking and an alleged attempted assassination plot.
The suspended Kogi Central Senator expressed grave concerns for her safety and that of her family amid the ongoing harassment.
“Our client has been subjected to false allegations aimed at discrediting her work and public service.
“The evidence will show a coordinated effort to malign, blackmail and intimidate Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan through deceit and abuse of digital platforms,” her legal team stated.
The petition also highlights a potential motive for the attacks, linking them to Senator Akpabio’s alleged retaliation after Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan publicly accused him of sexual harassment earlier this year, in February 2025.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has called on the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General to urgently intervene and thoroughly investigate the matter, including the involvement of third-party collaborators who endorsed and amplified the defamatory campaign.
Through her counsel, Natasha said, “we believe this is a criminal enterprise violating several provisions of Nigerian law.
“We respectfully request a swift and impartial investigation to hold all perpetrators accountable, regardless of their position or influence within our society.”
