Former militants in the Niger Delta region have accused the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Major General Barry Ndiomu (retd) of paying Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila the sum of N1bn monthly of the N5.4bn monthly budget to remain in office.

This is as leaders of the region urged the President to relieve Ndiomu of his job with immediate effect.

According to the stakeholders and former militant leaders, PAP  receives ₦5.4 billion monthly from the federal government with about ₦2bn spent to pay ₦65,000 as monthly stipends to 30,000 ex-militants that have continued to honour their part of the agreement with the federal government to ensure the smooth exploration and production of oil and gas from the Niger Delta region.

The remaining ₦3.4 billion are spent on paying beneficiaries tuition fees and upkeep, recurrent expenditures, and payment to contractors.

Speaking under the aegis of the  Ex-Militants Forum (REF), in a statement by its National Coordinator,  Tony Ebikalaide, the group said that, “Ndiomu now feels embolden as he boast to have compromised President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila with a monthly payment of ₦1bn to retain him in office, which is ₦12 billion a year.”

The stakeholders and former militant leaders expressed displeasure at the fact that “persons that didn’t work for the President during his campaign, in-fact they used their own resources to sponsor and work for the opposition party against Tinubu; they are the people presently benefiting in President Tinubu’s government, all because they were in power during the last government and were able to stash enough public funds to bribe people in President Tinubu’s government to retain them in office. This is the current and sad reality, with all the old persons  being retained.”

The group called on the  President and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to urgently rejig PAP and remove the interim Ndiomu for the effective and proper delivery of its security mandate to the region and nation at large.

Ex- General Tony Ebikalaide stated that, “Ndiomu has completely bastardized the Presidential Amnesty Programme. He is the worst Amnesty Administrator in the history of the PAP with no achievement, only paid sycophants can continue to defend Ndiomu’s continued stay in office.

“President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila should not allow his name to be dragged into the mud with the likes of Ndiomu.  The Amnesty office can make or break people’s political career. Femi Gbajabiamila has a bright future ahead of him and dining with Ndiomu who is the most hated politician in the entire Niger Delta region will not go well with his future political career,” he added.
