The Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) said Saturday there was a jail break at the Kuje Prisons in Abuja on Friday but insisted that the detained, suspected mastermind of the 2010 Independence Day bombings in Abuja, Charles Okah, did not escape as speculated.
There were reports that Okah escaped the prison with other prisoners.
But the Spokesman of NPS, Francis Enobore said Okah was hale and hearty and still in Kuje Prisons.
“Yes there was an incident yesterday, but Henry Okah was not involved.
“The Comptroller of Prisons has ordered an investigation and that is going on.
“We want to know if anybody escaped and if yes, what are their identities.
“He is there (Kuje prison) hale and hearty. The comptroller of prisons in charge of the FCT was there less than 30 minutes ago and he saw him there. I spoke to the controller,” he said.
