There are indications that Ex President Olusegun Obasanjo’s desperation to control a large chunk of the structure of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the south west, especially Ogun state, may fracture the party.
This is replay of how Obasanjo created problems in the south west bloc of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
Already governors of Ogun, Oyo, and some top APC stalwarts are not comfortable with his meddlesomeness.
Yankarireporters.com gathered that Obasanjo had convinced Leader, Bola Tinubu that he must be consulted before anyone from Ogun gets a juicy spot in the General Mohammadu Buhari’s government.
First casualties are Ex governors Kayode Fayemi and Babatunde Fashola.
Both men who are supposed to be candidates of the national leader of the party Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Their names were initially pencilled down on the list still being worked on before final vetting by the party’s national leadership but on advice of Obasanjo , the names of the duo were erased.
Our investigation further reveals that as replacements for Fashola and Fayemi, Obasanjo recommended Sen. Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon and former governor, Segun Oni respectively.
Curiosly, both Fayemi and Fashola are not from Ogun.
Says one of our sources, “ there is real trouble brewing within our party. A powerful member of the party in the South West has called for the names of Fashola and Fayemi to be dropped from the ministerial list. This has not gone down well with some very influential members of the party who are governors”
While Fayemi was tentatively penciled down for the information ministry, Fashola was listed to head the works ministry.
Yankarireporters.com gathered that Tinubu agreed to drop both men for Obasanjo’s choices because, the latter had issues with both governors.
Recall that Tinubu had fought Fashola over his second term bid, and also accused Fashola of sponsoring the state assembly’s campaign of calumny against him. Tinubu only succeeded in removing his deputy. Tinubu had never hidden his disdain for Fayemi who lost every local council to Ayo Fayose, and then went ahead to concede and congratulate Fayose.
Obasanjo had fractured the PDP in Ogun and Oyo states. He wanted to control the party and be in charge of the structure, but was pushed back by money bag, Kashamu Buruji. Buruji’s Bayo Dayo beat Obasanjo’s candidate for chairmanship.
Obasanjo’s anti party activities led to the sack of his men by the National leadership. Segun Oni, his darling boy, who was National vice chairman, and National auditor, Bode Mustapha were sacked by the Bamanga Tukur led leadership. Olagunsoye Oyinloye national scribe was also removed.
The crisis in Oyo started when Obasanjo tackled ex Governor Rasheed Ladoja. He propped Alao Akala who ousted Ladoja. Today the PDP is yet to recover, and Ladoja is with Accord Party and Akala in Labour.
Said a sources, ” Obasano is bad news to APC in my zone. He is set to destroy the party He was able to convince Asiwaju, but it is dangerous. He is so selfish and self centered. He wants to control the APC in his state, and even beyond. Tinubu is very influential but he respects Obasanjo as an elder, all for political reasons”
