Onagoruwa, 16 Others Emerge Senior Advocates

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice under the regime of the Late General Sani Abacha, Dr. Olu Onagoruwa was among the 17 lawyers to be conferred with the coveted rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Also on the list is Prof. Ernest Maduabuchi Ojukwu, a former deputy Director-General of the Nigerian Law School.

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) at its meeting on Friday made the recommendation out of the 109 applications for 2014.

Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Mr. Sunday Olorundahunsi, who doubles as LPPC secretary, published the list. The inauguration has been slated for September 22, he added.

According to LPPC, two lawyers from the academics, and three women were amongst the 109 applications. 17, the committee said, were from the academia.

The news SANS are: Olu Onagoruwa, Maduabuchi Ojukwu, Sylvanus Aghumele Ogwemoh, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (from the University of Jos), Olusola Olaseni Idowu, Ahamefula Ikechukwu Eke Ejelam, Chike George Onyemenam, Tawo Eja Tawo and Olatunde Oluranti Adejuyigbe.

Others are Dr. Adewale Adedamola Olawoyin, Dr. Joshua Olukayode Olatoke, Teslim Olatunde Busari, Kelvin Chukwudi Nwufo, Dr. Amuda-Kannike Abiodun, Oluwakemi Mufutau Balogun, Hakeem Olatunde Afolabi and Gerald Godwin E. Ezeuko.
