A new wave of crisis is emerging within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as some party chieftains have threatened mass defection because President Goodluck Jonathan has failed to fulfill his promise of appointing them into boards of parastatals in the run up to the 2011 presidential election.
According to a source who confided in Pointblanknews.com, the party faithful particularly at the state level feel neglected by the President after toiling to ensure that Jonathan win the 2011 election with the incentive of appointments into boards of Parastatal and Agencies.
The source noted that over 2,000 jobs would have been created as Board Chairmen and members would in turn hire aides and support grass root leaders in their States and Local Governments.
The party members, the source, said were further infuriated after some appointments into nine board of parastatals were made late last year made by Jonathan without considering them.
Pointblanknews.com however gathered that the list of full appointments into boards of parastatals, with the input of governors, have been made but they are domiciled in the presidency.
However, the posting are at the discretion of President, the Vice President, Arch. Namadi Sambo, and the Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and State Governors, it was gathered.
The source said, “most of the PDP members especially from the states are angry that two years down the line they are yet to receive the promise of appoints into boards.
“They are contemplating defection enmasse to any party that would take care of them. These are grass root members of the party, who campaigned for Jonathan in 2011 elections based on the promise that they would be appointed into boards but since then nothing has been heard from this administration.
“They are also under pressure from their supporters who look up to them as well. In any case the appointment would create about 2000 jobs” the source said.
They approved constitution of the Board of Directors of nine Federal Government agencies by President Jonathan include the Federal Mortgage Bank, Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA; Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN; National Examination Council, NECO; Nigerian Export Promotion Council, NEPC; and Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone, Port Harcourt.
