PDP crisis: I am still chairman , Modu-Sheriff insists

by Our Reporter

Sacked chairman of the PDP,  Ali Modu -Sheriff , has described as illegal,  his removal,  and constitution of a caretaker committee.

His spokesman,  Inuwa Bwala ,who spoke with pointblanknews.com on telephone,  said his boss called for postponement because of the strings of court injunctions, and that he remained chairman.

According to him, there were about five injunctions,  so they had no choice.

Bwala who spoke from Port Harcourt,  venue of the botched convention, said all the state chapters,  Senators,  and Governors of Taraba,  Gombe and Bayelsa left the convention ground with Modu-Sheriff.

“We have left the venue, because of the court injunctions,  we are law abiding, the constitution of caretaker committee is not recognized by our constitution,  so it is illegal”

“We left with the senators,  except Deputy Senate President,  the northern  state chapters are with us, governors of Gombe,  Taraba,  Bayelsa are with us”
“The convention was cancelled, and it remains cancelled until such a time the matters in court are resolved, for us to convene another national convention.” he said

” Modu  Sheriff remained the national chairman of the PDP, going by the pronouncement of the court”.

“The court had said the office of the chairman would become vacant only in 2018, and that is parts of the reasons we shelved the convention,” said Bwala.

He said Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, and the Senate Minority Leader, Godwill Akpabio,  wanted to go on with the convention even with the subsisting court orders, but we said no”

Pointblanknews.com gathered that Wike had prevailed on those present to allow Modu Sheriff head the caretaker committee but the suggestion was rejected.
The motion to sack Mr. Sheriff was moved at the convention by Mr. Akpabio, at the Port Harcourt Civic Centre.
