Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) has reacted to the 14 anniversary of the Peoples Democratic Party and concluded that the party has failed Nigerians.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Osita Okechukwu, the CNPP said that they were not surprised that the PDP in its tradition of bombarding Nigerians with huge dosage of propaganda went on to claim credit even where none was recorded.
Therefore we are enraged that in the copious speech delivered, except subtle admission that they are not perfect, there was no one line in the speech where the PDP apologized for its broken promises, bad governance and failed leadership. The PDP has the audacity to quip, the truth is that people are restive and demanding more from the party, government PDP insists on probity and accountability with the setting up of anti-graft agencies, nothing can be swept under the carpet, the statement read.
CNPP accused PDP of insulting the intelligence of Nigerians by laying the blame for its under performance on we will not lose sight of two factors; one is that within the 14 years, seven years witnessed monumental financial meltdown globally. In the history of the world, it had never happened, at a stage, money was threatened as means of exchange.
There was a financial crisis that brought down institutions all over the world.
A lot of governments in the last 7 years lost elections to the opposition, because of the effect of this financial meltdown. PDP has led this nation to survive this crisis.
CNPP further noted said instead of giving excuses, a responsible, responsive and patriotic ruling political party, should have ceased the opportunity of the 14th anniversary for introspection and soul searching; in order to examine how come over 70% of Nigerians today live below poverty line, as against 40% in 1998 and how come Nigerians are not just restive, but are declaring for self- government, hoisting flags and coats of arms?
Whereas, we cannot belabor you with uncountable PDP’s theatre of absurd; it is our considered view that what the Peoples Democratic Party {PDP} is celebrating is its 14th anniversary of locus years. Accordingly, it is incumbent on the party to openly apologize to Nigerians for years of broken promises, failed leadership, and enthronement of corruption and culture of impunity.
