The peoples Democratic Party, PDP staged a walk out following
controversies over whether or not report of the Committee which
investigated petitions against former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi
should be debated before his confirmation as a Ministerial nominee.
The Ad-hoc Committee which investigated former Governor Amaechi had
recommended that in view of the fact that the matter as contained in the
petition is already in court, the nomination of the former Governor should
not be considered by the Senate.
Nevertheless, the Senate went ahead to confirms all the Ministerial
nominees including AAmaechi after Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, had canvassed
his colleagues to jettison the Committee’s report.
Seventeen other nominees including Adamu Adamu, Geoffrey Oyenma Aisha
Abubakar, James Ocholi, Zainab Ahmed and Shittu Adebayo were also
confirmed.
