President Tinubu Transmits N1.48 Trillion Rivers State Budget Proposal to NASS

President Bola Tinubu has submitted a N1.48 trillion budget proposal for Rivers State to the National Assembly for review and approval. The move comes as a direct consequence of the Supreme Court’s nullification of the state’s 2025 budget and the current declaration of an emergency rule in Rivers State.
the letter read at plenary on Thursday, 22 May 2025 by the senate president, Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu explained that when approved, the money will be used by the Emergency Rule Government of Rivers State to provide for education, agriculture, provision of free drugs, and others
The proposed budget, totaling N1.481 trillion, outlines key allocations across critical sectors. Infrastructure is set to receive the largest share with N324 billion, underscoring a commitment to developing the state’s foundational assets.
Healthcare is earmarked for N166 billion, indicating a focus on improving public health services. Education will benefit from N75.6 billion, aiming to bolster learning institutions and programs. Finally, agriculture is allocated N31.4 billion, signaling efforts to boost food security and agricultural development in the state.
The submission of this budget to the National Assembly by the President explained the federal government’s direct involvement in the state’s financial affairs during this period of emergency rule.
Recall that Rivers State has been embroiled in a political crisis, which has led to federal intervention in its governance.
