by Our Reporter

Two of the four journalists with Leadership newspapers detained by the Nigeria Police since Monday morning have been released.

Those who regained their freedom tuesday were Tony Amokeodo and Chibuizor Ukaibe. Their release followed a barrage of public criticisms that greeted their arrest and  detention.

Four of them were detained on Monday but two regained freedom yesterday night while those released today were kept behind bars. Those who were let off the hook yesterday are Chinyere Fred-Adegbulugbe, Director, Human Capital and a Managing Editor, Chuks Ohuegbe, while those released today are Group News Editor Tony Amokeodo and political reporter, Chibuizor Ukaibe.

The  journalists were taken to the police tracking unit, an underground detention centre at the force Criminal Investigation Department in Area 10, Abuja.

Leadership in an earlier statement alleged  that the police said they must disclose the source of the bromide document on the story before they could be released.

Their arrest was sequel to a  publication of a story allegedly exposing a presidential directive to crush opposition leaders and parties in the country.
