Secondus: I Don’t Take, Receive Bribe

Deputy national chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Prince Uche Secondus has faulted reports that he is embroiled in a $200 million bribe scandal involving national chairman Adamu Mu’azu.

Secondus told Pointblanknews.com that for the eight years he served as state chairman of the PDP, and since 2007 when he became a national officer, nobody has accused him of requesting or accepting bribe in return for party ticket.

“I would not have responded to the baseless allegation if I am guilty. I’ve been an officer of my great party since 1999 and nobody has accused me of taking bribe from him or her.

“I am speaking for myself. My Christian lifestyle does not and cannot allow me seek bribe from anybody. God has been very faithful to me, and I cannot at this stage soil my reputation,” said the party officer.

The party chief continued “I challenge any aspirant or candidate who ever offered or gave me bribe to come forward with proof. In this season of elections, it is not unnatural for people to seek to pull you down at all cost, so I am not surprised.”

He, however acknowledged that desperate politicians often approach him and other party officers with offers of bribe to help them get party tickets.

“Yes, during primaries, different people come with different kinds of offers and proposals. I have been in politics since the Second Republic and know how easily one’s integrity can be rubbished overnight by a pot of porridge, so I steer clear of such people,” he declared.
