The suspended senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan says the recent attack by unknown gunmen at her family house in Ihima, Kogi State, is connected to the ongoing face-off between him and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Pointblank News reported that some gunmen, in the early hours of Tuesday, attacked and vandalised the family house of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, located at Obeiba-Ihima in Okehi Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, some armed men, mistakenly believing the Senator was at home, vandalised windows in her grandfather’s house before security operatives swiftly responded and repelled the attackers.
The embattled lawmaker who confirmed that attack in a Press Statement on Thursday, said that on Thursday, some gunmen on Tuesday, April 15, mistakenly believing that she was present, vandalised windows in her grandfather’s house.
“This calculated assault appears to be a direct response to Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s courageous stance against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual harassment. We urge the Inspector General of Police to immediately reinstate her security details,” she said.
Giving details of what transpired on the faithful night she said, “Two days ago, my younger brother took some contractors to my hometown in Ihima to inspect locations for upcoming projects I attracted to my senatorial district.
“The unknown gunmen assumed I was the one in town and attacked my family house that night. Thankfully, the civil defence team and community members responded promptly and chased them off. A report was made to the police area command, and no one was hurt.
“We call on the public to remain calm and support the pursuit of justice for Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan. Her dedication to speaking the truth and representing her constituents should not be met with violence and intimidation.”
