The friction between the Adamawa State governor, Murtala Nyako and the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, further deepens as the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party approved the appointment of Hon. Mohammed Wakil to act as National Vice Chairman, North East, in place of Alhaji Girigiri Lawal suspended recently. Lawal is favorably disposed to Nyako.
The feisty relationship between the Bamanga Tukur and his governor Nyako, over who controls the party machinery in the state, hit a delicate curve last week when the National leadership of the Party dissolved the Adamawa State Chapter of the Party.
A Caretaker Committee has also been set up to manage the affairs of the Party in the State pending further directives.
Citing reasons for dissolving the state party Exco, the National PDP said “The dissolved Exco was expressly advised by the National Working Committee (NWC)to halt further steps towards the conduct of Local Government Elections as agreed at a meeting of 9th October, 2012 between the NWC and the Adamawa State Working Committee.
The party continued “However, the EXCO did not only go ahead with the process, it submitted a list of candidates to the State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) without the approval of the NWC. ”
Members of constituted the Adamawa State Caretaker Committee members as follows:
Amb. Umar Damagun – Chairman – Yobe

Pointblanknews gathered that the move of the National Chairman has further infuriated gov Nyako, who has started to rally some of his colleagues against the Bamanga Tukur.
It was gathered that the tussle is not unconnected with alleged plots by Bamanga Tukur to install his son, former member of the House of Representatives, Anwalu Tukur, as governor of Adamawa State.
In a press release yesterday however, the Peoples Democratic Party gave a strongly worded directive that “its officials who hold party and public offices to comply with provisions of the party’s Constitution with regard to the submission of names for election into public offices.
“The National Working Committee of the party has also approved the appointment of Hon. Mohammed Wakil to act as National Vice Chairman, North East, in place of Alhaji Girigiri Lawal suspended recently.
The statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, called on National Working Committee members, state governors, zonal officers as well as state chairmen and secretaries to comply with Section 50 of the party’s Constitution, 2012 as amended.
He referred to a circular letter PDP/NC/NWC/SG/ZO/C.S/10/12 dated 18th October, 2012 signed by the National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and directed the officials to comply with contents of the circular.“It is to be noted that Section 50 (1) of the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, 2012 (as amended) vests the power for the formulation of guidelines and regulations for the nomination of candidates for election into public office at all levels on the National Headquarters of our great party,’’ the circular stated.
