In fact, the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), governors elected under the platform of the PDP and the party’s flagbearer, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, will be meeting penultimate Wednesday as consultations toward picking a running mate intensifies.
Topping the list of potential candidates considered is the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike who is said to have the backing of majority of the party leaders.
Insider source revealed that a combination of Atiku and Wike will not only unite the party, but also go a long way in ensuring that the PDP returns to power in 2023.
However, names like that of the Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa and his counterpart in Enugu State, Ifeanyi Uguwanyi are also bring considered.
Again, a one-time Senate President and former Secretary to the Federal government, Anyim Pius Anyim is also a strong consideration for party leaders ahead of Wednesday’s meeting.
Pointblanknews.com recalls that the recent concluded convention, a testy battle for the PDP presidential flag prodiced Atiku Abubakar, who got the backing of another presidential aspirant and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, polled 371 votes to beat Wike, who garnered 237 votes.
Udom Emmanuel scored 38 votes to come fourth behind former Senate President and two-time governor of Kwara State, Dr Bukola Saraki, who got 70 votes.
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State scored 20 votes and former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, polled 14 votes.
