ABOUT 2,000 members of the All Progressive Congress (APC), in Kwara State have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The event which took place at Alore Area of Ilorin West Local Government had in attendance PDP stalwarts from Kwara Central and Kwara North senatorial districts.
Speaking on behalf of the decampees, Mallam Ajadi Abdulfatah said after series of meetings and consultations with Senator Gbemisola Saraki, the former APC members decided to join PDP.
Abdulftatah Ajadi, who was in All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) before the merger that metamorphosed into APC, said they all have confidence in Senator Ruqayat Gbemisola Saraki, popularly referred to as GRS.
He described the PDP as an all inclusive party where everyone would have a sense of belonging.
Earlier in her remarks, Senator Ruqayat Gbemisola Saraki who welcomed them to PDP, assured them of equal opportunity in the party.
Senator Saraki, who was represented on the occasion by Dr. Saad Omoya, implored the people of Kwara State to support PDP for positive change.
On his part, former speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Mr Ezekiel Benjamin, described the event as historic, adding that PDP will transform the state if elected in 2015.
He added that Senator Ruqayat Gbemisola Saraki took after her father’s political philosophy.
Also speaking at the event, the state PDP woman leader, Hajia Nimota Oba who also welcomed the decampees, advised the people not to sell their vote.
