Candidate of the Progressive Peoples’ Alliance (PPA) for the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency of Abia state, Comrade Emma Idima has accused the member representing the constituency, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha of claiming projects executed by communities as her constituency projects.
Idima who stated this while featuring in a political debate organized by a cable TV station in Umuahia, listed some of the community projects which the lawmaker claims to have executed to include the Maternity Home at Umuobiala and others across Isuikwuato, water projects as well as financial assistance to the people.
He lamented that Onyejeocha who seeking to represent the federal constituency for the third time in 2015, contrary to the agreement rotating the seat between the two local governments of the constituency, has abandoned the people to suffer since she was elected.
“Erosion has cut off some parts of Isuikwuato from their neighbours. It has engulfed life; people can’t move about, farmers can no longer farm. All we hear is that the contract for the filling of the erosion sites have been awarded but no action. Not long ago, a man and his wife fell into the gully created by the erosion and the wife died out of the injury she sustained. Our representative has never mentioned the gravity of the erosion problems ravaging her constituency to the federal authorities.
“The youths and women are not being carried along. Last time, she lied about the projects she did not do. She claimed to have built maternity homes in Umuobiala and other Isuikwuato communities but the truth is that most of these centres were built through communal efforts.
“She only comes around during election to do what they call empowerment; sharing rice, wrappers and a few naira notes. We must step up and ensure that these things stop this time.”
Idima who is upbeat about his chances at the polls, said he is contesting to bring quality representation to the constituency, stressing that the people of the area are tired of Onejeocha’s poor representation.
According to him, “my representation will centre on the welfare of the people. I will serve the rich, the poor and less privileged. There will be regular constituency town hall briefings. To engage the youths, I will build skill acquisition centres and partner with relevant agencies to bring health care closer to the people; particularly the aged.”
