The Chairman Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, Chief Michael Ibe Nwoke, has dumped the Peoples Democratic party for the Young Progressive Party.
Other PDP chieftains who defected to the YPP include; former chairman of Obingwa council, Chief Ben Nwankpa; former Special Adviser to the Governor, Ambassador Sarah Ogwudire, PDP’s legal Adviser in Osisioma Ngwa council, Emmanuel Okwudire Enyinnaya, Chief Jumbo Kamalu, Mrs Rose Onwunata, Hon.Victor Nwogu, who tore his PDP membership card, among others.
One of the decampees and sitting councilor in Osisioma Ngwa council, Hon. Ikechi Ishmael, said he had declared for the YPP with some of his colleagues in the legislative council.
State chairman of YPP, Mr. Nelson Uluocha, who welcomed the former PDP members, commended them for joining the YPP to rescue the state from what he described as bad governance.
He disclosed that other councillors from Obingwa, Aba South and Aba North council areas had also joined the party.
Unveiling the governorship candidate, Engr. Nana Nwafor; his running mate, Dr. Chima Anyaso, as well as the senatorial, House of Representatives and House of Assembly flag bearers of the party in the state, national Chairman, YPP, Bishop Amakiri, said the party has fielded quality candidates who will take over the governance of the state in 2023.
In his remarks, the governorship candidate, Engr. Nwafor urged the people of the state to support the party and pledged to do a new thing if elected governor of the state.
“A new thing will happen in Abia State, if im elected the governor of the State. We will restore the dignity of man ,to the glory of God in Abia.
“I want to make a pledge that we will not fail you, we not take your love and support for granted. We will do all we can to wipe away the tears of teachers, civil servants, pensioners and the youths.
“I have prepared for this office I’m running for the past 7 years, we will create wealth and massive infrastructural development in this state. Go home and thank God for hope has come to Abia State”.
Speaking for the decampees,Chief Michael Ibe Nwoke, said it was time for the youths to take over the governance of the state while the elderly should play advisory roles.
He called on the electorate to get their voters card to vote out the PDP in 2023.
He said; “It’s time for the youths to take over governance of the state. The youths should work and support the elderly at home and not the other way around.
“Our elders have tried, it’s time for the youths to do their beat to restore the state.”
