Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has declared that the South-East, especially Ebonyi State, will support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, dismissing the influence of Peter Obi’s OBIdient Movement in the region.
Speaking at the Ohanivo 2025 New Yam Festival in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi over the weekend, Umahi said the people of the South-East had been marginalised for too long and have now shifted political allegiance.
“We are not OBIdient people. We have been so marginalised that we are no longer OBIdient. It is the man who has given us a sense of belonging, President Bola Tinubu. There is no OBIdient person in Ebonyi,” he said.
The former governor stressed that Tinubu has demonstrated goodwill to the region, and the people would, in turn, reward him at the polls in 2027. He argued that the outcome of the 2023 presidential election had made the South-East “politically wiser.”
Umahi’s comments reflect growing realignments in the region ahead of 2027, setting the stage for renewed debates over loyalty, development, and representation in national politics.
