A former member of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. George Ike Okoye has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar over an alleged plot by Chief Emma Nwude to assassinate him.

Nwude was in 2005 convicted alongside some advance fee fraudsters after entering into a plea bargain with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for defrauding a Brazilian bank of $242 million.

In the petition dated July 15, 2014, Okoye alleged that Nwude was after his life and that of one Mr Samson Ikezu, for standing in the way of the ex-convict’s ambition to become the traditional ruler of Abagana.

Nwude funds several prominent politicians in the state, and holds the traditional title Owelle Abagana.

Okoye’s petition was copied President Goodluck Jonathan, Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, EFCC chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Lamorde, and Igwe Abagana, Obi Mbamalu Okeke.

The former lawmaker told the police boss that he had earlier petitioned the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, but was constrained to write him when it became apparent that Nwude was using some police officers in the Zone 9 Command headquarters, Umuahia.
.
Okoye said his earlier petition had angered Nwude plotted Ikezu’s kidnap, transfer to a police station, and subsequent frame-up for forgery.

He accused the Abagana Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of acting out Nwude’s script by detaining Ikezu and denying him bail.

Even after an Abagana Magistrate Court‎ granted Ikezu bail, explained Okoye, his friend had to remain in Akwa prison for fear that some policemen from Zone 9 headquarters, at Nwude’s behest, would re-arrest him.

Okoye, a former presidential aspirant, alleged that strange armed men believed to be policemen ‎ have been spotted around his premises.

Okoye said he had been tipped off that the strange armed men were under instructions from Nwude to “teach him a lesson of his life.”

“As a law-abiding citizen,” stressed Okoye, “who has served as a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, and who has aspired for the highest office on the land, I appeal to you to use your good office to call Messrs Emma Nwude, his boys and some compromising officers of the Zone 9 command Umuahia to order.”
