Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has called on those vandalising public utilities to desist from the nefarious activities or face the full weight of the law.
Ikpeazu in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Godwin Adindu said that the concerted efforts of his to improve the living condition and welfare of Abians by restoring public utilities is being thwarted and sabotaged by some unscrupulous elements who have been vandalizing the newly installed facilities for streetlights on the Ahia Eke Road and IBB Way in Umuahia.
The statement said that these vandals have been carting away the electric cables installed by the contractors handling the electrification project, Kanel International Limited.
“Government has gone ahead to replace these cables and other facilities and re-energized the street lights for the second time.
“But, these vandals and their colluding agents, who have been sabotaging the genuine efforts of the government and thereby dragging the state backward , are hereby warned to desist from their criminal activities or face the full weight of the law, ” the statement reads.
The statement therefore called on residents of these areas to partner with government in protecting and safe guiding these utilities which are meant to serve the people by apprehending such culprits and handling them over to the law enforcement agencies.
