Abuja-based human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has raised concerns over the treatment of supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the party’s convention held on March 27, 2026, at Eagle Square, Abuja.
Adeyanju made his position known in a post on his Facebook page, where he alleged that supporters were subjected to harsh conditions at the event.
“APC, a party meant for evil people. They tear-gassed their own supporters at Eagle Square and also made some people sleep in various mosques and on the streets of Abuja,” he wrote.
The activist further criticized the situation, questioning the continued loyalty of supporters despite the alleged treatment.
“These folks will continue to support them after all the suffering,” he added.
He claimed that security operatives deployed at the venue used tear gas on some attendees, while many others were left stranded without accommodation after arriving in the Federal Capital Territory for the event.
He also alleged that the situation forced several supporters to spend the night in mosques and on the streets, describing the development as troubling and raising concerns about the welfare of party loyalists.
As of press time, the APC had not issued any official response to the allegations, while security agencies had also not confirmed the reported use of tear gas.
Adeyanju’s comments have since generated reactions online, with Nigerians expressing mixed views over the allegations and broader concerns about organisation and supporter welfare at major political events.
