The Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Interim Management Committee, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, has called on club managers to incorporate technological innovations into their coaching frameworks, stressing that doing so is vital for improving the quality and competitiveness of the league.
Elegbeleye gave the charge during a recent media briefing where he emphasized that the global football landscape has evolved significantly, with technology now playing a critical role in player development, match preparation, and tactical analysis.
According to him, the use of video analysis tools, performance tracking software, and data analytics has become essential for clubs seeking success both locally and internationally. He stressed that Nigerian clubs cannot afford to remain behind if they hope to compete favourably with their counterparts across Africa and beyond.
“Football is no longer about guesswork. The best teams in the world rely on data and technology to plan matches, analyze opponents, and improve player output. It’s time we embrace these tools if we want to take the NPFL to the next level,” Elegbeleye stated.
He added that the league’s governing body is working towards facilitating training and workshops for coaches and technical staff on how to effectively utilize available digital resources. This initiative, he noted, will enhance the technical capacity of clubs and foster a culture of professionalism within the NPFL.
Elegbeleye also commended some clubs already taking steps in this direction and urged others to follow suit. He reaffirmed the league body’s commitment to continuous improvement and modernization of Nigerian football structures.
He concluded by urging clubs to prioritize long-term investments in digital coaching tools and knowledge, stating that sustainable growth and international competitiveness depend on forward-thinking strategies rooted in innovation.
