Former Special Adviser to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Opunabo Tariah has dismissed claims that Governor Siminalayi Fubara cannot seek a second term in 2027, describing any such agreement as legally meaningless.
Speaking in an interview with News Central TV, monitored by Pointblank news, Tariah argued that a fallout between Wike and Fubara is no reason to prevent the governor from contesting again, insisting that personal differences cannot override constitutional rights.
“What kind of agreement did you go into to tell a man ‘Do not contest’? I would have even preferred a situation where he told him, ‘If you contest, I will come after you politically, or let’s meet at the battlefield.’ Then I could accept such a challenge. Okay, why will he not contest? What has he done that you say he should not contest? Because he fell out with you? That is why I said that agreement is a nullity.”
He emphasized that political disagreements or personal differences should not restrict an elected official’s constitutional right to seek re-election.
Mr. Wike has not publicly reacted to his former aid as at the time of filing this report.
