A’Ibom Seeks Bilateral Trade Relations With Denmark

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, says his administration

has opened it doors for bilateral economic Cooperation in the area of
agriculture, logistics and maritime to the Republic of Denmark .

Governor Udom Emmanuel stated this during a Courtesy call on him by
the Denmark Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Torben Gotiermann, at Government
House, Uyo.

Mr Emmanuel said his administration which is committed to
industrialisation would develop the maritime sector with requisite
manpower to sustain the sector.

He pointed out that the state has a large coastal region with a
natural drought of about 17.73 metres and its nearness to the high sea
supports the establishment of the Deep Seaport and called on Denmark
to take advantage of the investment opportunities in the transhipment
and
other aspects of the Maritime Sector to boast trade in the Gulf of Guinea.

On Agriculture, the Governor said the evergreen vegetation which the
State is endowed with supports all round cultivation of food and cash
crops and expressed the need to partner the Republic of Denmark in the
education of it citizens in various fields to enhance technological
advancement.

He said Denmark with a high Gross Domestic Product is noted for it
stable economy and thanked the Ambassador for the visit assuring him
of a conducive business environment.

Earlier, the visiting Denmark Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Torben
Gotiermann, lauded the infrastructural development in Akwa Ibom.

He said the state has viable economic potentials that could be
exploited to boost the economy and that it shares a lot of
similarities with his home Country, Denmark.

Mr Gotiermann commended the industrialization drive of the state
noting that Akwa Ibom is the first state he has visited outside Abuja
and Lagos and assured of his country’s readiness to partner the state
in its development effort.

Mr Gotiermann was accompanied on the visit by his wife while the
Secretary to the State Government, Sir Ettekamba Umoren, Commissioner,
Youth and Sports, Mr Monday Uko, his counterpart in the Housing and
Urban Renewal Ministry, Mr Eno-obong Uwa, Local Government and
Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Victor Antai and Chairman Foreign Direct
Investment, Mr Victor Ukpe , were on hand to receive the Danish Envoy.
