Akwa Ibom Government has indicated its readiness to set up a technical
committee to canvass direct foreign investments in the agricultural sector
to boost food sufficiency in the state.
The state Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, who gave the hint Sunday during a
thanksgiving service for the state deputy governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo at St.
John`s Pro-Cathedral Parish, Abak, said his administration would select a
crop of individuals with the goal of turning thousands of persons to
employers of labour through contacts and discussions..
Emmanuel described Ekpo as a man with the wider experience in the public
service, and hoped he would make more meaningful contributions to raise
the state to higher pedestals of life, assuring that people who want to
fan the embers of disunity would be disappointed considering the
collective fasting and prayers by the people of the state.
He pledged to unfold his administration’s agenda soon based on the divine
mandate given him by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and affirmed through
the ballot by the people of the state, advising the celebrator who
organised the thanksgiving service described as a multi-faceted event to
maintain the light of God in his service to the state.
The deputy governor, Ekpo said the thanksgiving service was arranged to
appreciate God for sparing his life despite several travails, hailed the
prayers of the Christian community in launching him to be part of the
present administration.
Ekpo thanked the governor for turning up at the thanksgiving service in
spite of crowded activities, saying that since retirement to private life,
the prayers of the Christian community have been working for him and his
family.
The presiding cleric, Rev. Fr. Dominic Umoh in the first and second Bible
reading from Exodus 24: 3–8 and Hebrews 9:11-15 said God is a mediator of
Christians through a divine covenant, stressing that there exists a
redemption for man from transgressions.
Umoh preaching on the theme, The blood of Christ will purify our
conscience said all promises of God would be fulfilled in the lives of
true Christians, and sued for obedience to the word of God.
Top politicians at the event are, a one-time military administrator of the
state, Otuekong Idongesit Nkanga, a former deputy governor, Dr. Chris
Ekpenyong, the Pro-Chancellor, University of Benin, Senator Effiong Bob, a
one-time Minister for Lands and Housing, Chief Nduese Essien, a former
AKISIEC Commissioner, Dr. Ini Adiakpan, Akwa Ibom State Chairman of PDP,
Obong Paul Ekpo and the Chairman, Akwa Ibom Traditional Rulers Council,
Edidem Silas Akpan, among others.
