Three serving senators from Kebbi State, including former governor of the state, Adamu Aliero, elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have defected to the governing All Progressives Congress(APC).
The lawmakers made their intentions known after a closed door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa Abuja, on Friday.
The lawmakers, Senators Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South), were led to the meeting by the APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
Also present at the meeting were the Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris; Sokoto State Governor, Ahmad Aliyu; and the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu.
Friday’s defection is part of the “hurricane Tinubu” that have seen several national and state lawmakers including governors and their deputies move into the ruling party in APC in recent times.
The National Chairman of the ruling Party, Abdullahi Ganduje, had ealier boasted that more governors will join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking after the defection of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori to the party, Ganduje said, “The Governor of Delta State is now in APC, including his cabinet and all the members of the State Assembly and House of Representatives, and the timber and caliber of PDP, now in APC, even including the former vice presidential candidate coming into our party. So you can see that we are expanding. I don’t want to reveal our secret but what I’m telling you is that for APC, 2027 is a done deal.”
