The Action Congress of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter says the revelation by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs Ibim Semenitari that the state government is unaware of the dysfunctional traffic lights in the state has exposed the ineptitude of the Amaechi administration.
The party alleged that Amaechi’s government is disconnected from the people of the state .It has also according to the ACN, vindicated its earlier position that the Amaechi administration is not on ground.
The party’s position was contained in a press statement signed by its state publicity secretary, Jerry Needam.
The ACN was reacting to a disclosure by the Commissioner for Information and Communications.
The commissioner had on Saturday, February 23, 2013 on a News and Current Affairs live programme on Rhythm 93.7FM, “View Point”, in Port Harcourt, said the Rivers State government is unaware that traffic lights installed by the administration of Dr Peter Odili at specific junctions, roundabouts and other strategic traffic points in the state, and inherited by the Amaechi administration, are no longer functional.
The commissioner, who was answering questions on the live radio programme, also claimed that she drives round Rivers State regularly.
The party lamented that the commissioner who regularly drives round the whole Rivers State could not notice that the traffic lights are no longer working; years after Amaechi took over as governor of the state.
“The implications, therefore, are that the Amaechi led government is not on ground, and has been disconnected from the people”, the ACN noted.
The party said the Information Commissioner will be better off, to admit the glaring disconnect and begin to make efforts to adjust rather than pretending.
