The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter has kicked against  moves by the State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu, warning that the party will resist any attempt to destabilise the state government.
The party’s position comes after reports that the Assembly on Thursday initiated impeachment proceedings against the governor over alleged misconduct. The process is expected to advance within the next seven days, with formal notices to be served on both the governor and his deputy.
Reacting to the development, the Rivers APC, in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Darlington Nwauju, described the impeachment move as unacceptable and politically dangerous.
“Our position as at today on this matter is that we solemnly reject the resort to an impeachment process against our governor and his deputy,” Nwauju said.
He warned that the party would not remain silent while what he described as unresolved internal crises from another political party are allowed to spill over and threaten governance in Rivers State.
“It will be totally untenable for our party to keep quiet when an obvious hangover from strifes that occurred within the PDP are allowed to resurface in our great party,” he added.
Nwauju further stressed that the APC is determined to protect the stability of the current administration, declaring that the party “will do everything possible to ensure that the Government of Rivers State, which is an APC government, is not destabilized.”
The statement signals a looming political confrontation as tensions rise over the impeachment push, with the APC positioning itself squarely against the Assembly’s move.
