Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a prominent news anchor, reporter, and producer with ARISE News Channel, has been brutally murdered in an armed robbery incident at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday.
Maduagwu, affectionately called “Sommie” by colleagues, was aged, 29.
Confirming the heartbreaking development, The television station described her as “a cherished member of the ARISE News family” whose voice “engaged and connected with our viewers.”
The station added: “Sommie’s voice is now silent but her spirit, passion and legacy will endure as part of our collective memory. We call for a speedy investigation, apprehension and prosecution of the culprits.”
The Nigeria Police have since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Born on December 26, 1995, Maduagwu was a trained lawyer before transitioning into broadcast journalism, where she quickly distinguished herself as a vibrant and respected presence on Nigerian television. Known for her warm on-screen personality, eloquence, and professionalism, she built a reputation that resonated deeply with audiences.
Colleagues and management of ARISE News have extended heartfelt condolences to her family, describing her death as a devastating blow not only to the organization but also to the wider Nigerian media industry.
