Following the unfortunate auto crash that claimed the lives of 21 Kano state sports contingent returning from the 2024 National Sports Festival held in Ogun State, Senator Shehu Sani, on Sunday, condoled with the families and urged the government to immortalize them.
Pointblanknews.com had reported that the National Sports Festival had ended badly for ‘Team kano’ as tragedy hits on their way back to base. At least 21 athletes from the State contingent have been confirmed dead following a tragic motor accident at Dakatsalle Bridge in the Kura Local Government Area of the State.
The accident took place on the Daka Tsalle bridge in the Garun Malam Local Government area around 8 am on Saturday. The bus encountered a pothole, which caused it to overturn.
Senator Shehu Sani who made the call in his verified X handle on Sunday wrote, “I watched the video of the scene of the bus accident that claimed the lives of Kano’s 21 athletes. It’s a tragedy for Nigeria.
“They travelled hundreds of kilometers only to perish at a distance of “Mun kusa shigowa.” They made their last calls and last messages before their exit to eternity. They died in active service for their state and country. We lost a vibrant generation who represented us and were determined to make us proud.
“Kano State and the Federal Government must do better to support their families and immortalise them. Streets should be named after them. The scene of the accident must have a memorial in their honour .
“The future generation should know about them and their sacrifices. We cannot bring them back to life, but we can make their service and sacrifice immortal. With tears in my eyes, I say to the spirits of the deceased, thank you for your service to humanity.
“We appreciate your lives. May Allah forgive their shortcomings and grant them Aljanna firdausi.”
