Bauchi State Government on Thursday inaugurated two committees to turn around the Yankari Games Reserve into a viable world class tourism destination.
Alhaji Adamu Alkali, Principal Private Secretary to Gov. Isa Yuguda performed the inauguration in Bauchi.
Alkali named the committees as the Supervisory Council and the Management Team which were mandated to upgrade the reserve into a revenue generating outfit for the state.
He said that the development followed the investment of over one billion naira by the state government to upgrade infrastructure of the resort and safari.
Alkali said the advisory council would be chaired by him while the commissioner for tourism, finance, budget and the special duties are to serve as members.
He announced that Mr Jibril Aliyu and Mr Lawal Bako are to serve as the head of the management team and secretary respectively with other members.
He said that the move was to turn around the Yankari Park into an international spot following the transfer of its management to the state government by the federal government.
Alkali said that it was also meant to discover the potentials of the park and re-launch the Yankari resort and safari as world class tourism destination in the country.
He said that the committees should also ensure that the infrastructure of the park was maintained, as well as improve its conservation, management and services.
The chairman urged members of the committees to provide a general direction that would improve the services of the park to meet the expectations of tourists.
