The Federal Government has been advised to use a carrot- and- stick
approach in dealing with militants destroying oil and gas installations in
the Niger Delta region.
Acting Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, Dr.
Emmanuel Efiezomor, stated this while fielding reporters’ questions after
the traditional council meeting in Asaba, the State capital,
The monarch urged the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, to sheathe their swords
and embrace Abuja’s olive branch, recognizing the efforts of governors in
the region to end the crisis.
He emphasized the need for stakeholders to work in tandem to bring about a
permanent resolution to the Niger Delta problem.
The council put together separate committees to visit members with health
problems to enable the council takes proactive measures to address their
health concerns and warned against conferring of titles on persons with
questionable characters.
He charged the committees to be up and doing and visits the affected
monarchs in the three Senatorial Districts, saying, “Welfare and health
of traditional rulers in Delta State remain a top priority of the
council.”
The second vice chairman and Orodje of Okpe, Orhue I, said the
inauguration of the committees was in line with the determination of the
council to uphold unity and love among the traditional rulers.
Remarking, the Pere of Akugbene-Mein Kingdom, S.P Luke Kalanama VIII,
re- stated the commitment of the council to promote unity and friendship
among ‘’traditional rulers as members of one indivisible body. ‘’
The Obi of Ubulu-Unor chairs the committee for Delta North even as the
Ovie of Ozoro heads the Delta South and Central committee.
The committees are to visit the King of Akwukwu-Igbo, Oshimili North local
government area, His Majesty Obi David Azuka, Obi of Ebudu-Akah, Ovie of
Iyede, the Pere of Ngbilebiri-Mein and the Osuivie of Agbarho and come up
with a detailed report on their health status for further action.
