Tensions are rising in the Super Eagles camp in Rabat, Morocco, as players reportedly boycotted training on Tuesday, demanding payment of unpaid match bonuses just days ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff clash against Gabon.
Sources close to the team revealed that the players are insisting on settlement of outstanding bonuses and allowances from previous international fixtures before resuming full training.
It’s not wrong to say at this point that the Super Eagles have gone on strike! Another blight on our image!
The standoff comes at a critical time for Nigeria, who must defeat the Panthers of Gabon on Thursday to advance to the next round of qualifiers.
The winner of that playoff will then face either Cameroon or DR Congo for a spot in the Intercontinental Playoff scheduled for March 2025 in Mexico.
Although 21 players are currently in camp and morale had been high earlier in the week, the dispute over unpaid entitlements has cast a shadow over preparations.
Team officials are reportedly holding closed-door meetings to resolve the issue and ensure the squad is fully focused for the upcoming crucial match.
Fans are now hoping the bonus dispute is swiftly resolved so the Super Eagles can put off-field distractions behind them and focus entirely on securing a place at the 2026 World Cup.
