Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has applauded the efforts of security operatives in the state in ensuring the safe release of Elder statesman Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno.
Monguno, was released to his family members in far away Kirenowa border village in Marte Local government, Borno state Governor, Kashim Shettima said.
The elder statesman arrived home at about 12 noon yesterday amidst joy and tears as his family members and well wishers continued to express gratitude to God for his safety.
When Governor Kashim Shettima visited to welcome him, Ali Monguno expressed gratitude to the governor and his team for their support.
Monguno however ask his children not to cry saying “Please I don’t want anybody to cry over me, we’re you told I am dead? Please I am alive and nobody should shed tears for me…” he said.
Governor Shettima had immediately ordered that Monguno’s house should be sealed for 24 hours to enable him have proper rest.
Speaking to reporters, Shettima said ‘I am Extremely elated over the release of our elder statesman Dr. Shettima Ali Monguno. He was released by his abductors in Kirenowa, Marte Local Government after persistent appeal from the family members and government.
“The abductors made contact with the family members and further appeal was made and due to the 92 years old man’s frail heath condition and the fact that he his on medication, his abductors released him with out any payment of ransom” the governor said.
