Chime Not Disturbed By Opposition Attacks; Says Aides

by Our Reporter

As the opposition parties sustains its criticisms of the policies of the Enugu state government, the Senior Special Assistant on Inter Party Affairs to Governor Sullivan Chime, Evangelist Chris Asadu and the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Chukwudi Achife have declared that the governor is not disturbed over the spate of attacks he gets from the opposition parties in the state under the aegis of the Conference of Political Parties (CNPP).

The aides who stated this in separate statements said this was because those behind the attacks on the governor have no reasonable substance in their criticisms.

Asadu who was a former chieftain of the CNPP in the state, boasted that Chime is neither worried by the opposition’s threat to form a coalition against the ruling PDP nor the mounting criticisms over the plans to build a new workers secretariat.

He state that only a splinter group of nine out of over thirty seven political parties were behind the attacks, stressing that they were merely exercising their rights to freedom of expression and seeking relevance.

In his statement, Achife dismissed the group alleging that their credibility has been further eroded by the claims that it made in the media saying that it decided to launch the attacks on the governor because he (Chime) is no longer accessible to its members after they helped him win the 2011 elections.

The Chief Press Secretary stated that Chime has been running an all inclusive government with some opposition figures holding positions, adding that the governor maintains a non partisan approach in his transformational agenda of the state.

Recall that the opposition parties in Enugu state have criticized the many policies of the state government including its recent plans to demolish the Workers’ secretariat and erect a new one which would gulp billions of naira. The CNPP maintained that such funds could be diverted to sectors where they are urgently needed, insisting that the Worker’ secretariat has stood the test of time.

As at the time of going to press, efforts to reach the Chairman of the CNPP in Enugu state, Chief Adonis Igwe did not yield fruit as he failed to pick repeated calls ans text messages to mobile number.
