The mother of President Goodluck Jonathan, Madam Eunice Jonathan, Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson led other top government functionaries, political appointees and captains of industry to the centenary celebration of St. Matthew’s Anglican Church, Akipelai in Ogbia local government area of the state on Sunday.
Speaking through the Bayelsa State Governor, President Goodluck Jonathan described the occasion as historic, noting the kind of personalities that had passed through the church, especially Bishop Ajayi Crowther.
The church, and the community, according to him, have come a long way since 1911-2014 and as a result deserved to be honouredand celebrated.
Describing the vineyard of God as the best place to invest, President Jonathan said, such investments are never made in vain.
He added, “no man toils in the vineyard of the Lord without reaping bountifully from His blessings
The Governor, who spoke in a dual capacity said, “ I am impressed with the meticulous manner in which the church’s archives were documented and kept safe over the years.
“The Akipelai community and the church have come a long way, as today’s centenary celebration is a clear testimony to their dedication and faith in God.”
The community, according to him, has produced the number one citizen in the country, through Madam Jonathan, who hails from the ancient community.
The occasion also witnessed a lunch for the development of the Anglican Church.
In attendance were the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah (rtd), Speaker of the State Assembly, Rt. Hon. Konbowei Benson, wife of the Governor, Dr. Rachel Dickson among other top government functionaries.
