A member of the National Working Committee of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Mr Ladipo Johnson has thrown his weight of support behind the call by former Chief Security Officer to the late General Sani Abacha, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha that the character of those pushing for a coalition to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027 should be questioned.
Pointblanknews.com exclusively quoted Major Al-Mustapha last week as calling on Nigerians to interrogate men like former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna and Rivers State governors, Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi as well as erstwhile Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, who have vowed to rally Nigerians against Tinubu re-election bid.
In a telephone interview with our correspondent, Johnson who doubles as the National Publicity Secretary of the NNPP said a knowledge of the real motive behind the coalition would enable voters to make the right decision during elections.
“I agree with Major Al-Mustapha. Nigerians should investigate the pedigree of these people. They should ask questions concerning their track records. It is not enough to say you want to remove Tinubu? What are you offering the people in terms of policies and programmes? That is the way to go,” he said.
Also speaking, the Deputy National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Timothy Osadolor, advised Nigerians to do everything possible to unseat the incumbent administration in 2027.
“Those pushing for a coalition are not saints, but their intention to birth a new Nigeria is not in doubt. The Tinubu-led administration has given Nigerians more pain than succour. It is for this reason that all hands should be on deck to remove this government democratically in 2027. I agree that Nigerians should ask relevant questions concerning the capacity of pro-coalition chieftains and their motives,” he said.
In his contribution, the National Secretary, Coalition of United Political Parties, Mr Peter Ameh, agreed with Al-Mustapha, noting that Nigerians must first know what Atiku and his pro-coalition advocates are up to before choosing to embrace it.
“I affirm my agreement with Major Al-Mustapha’s call for Nigerians to thoroughly interrogate the profile and integrity of those behind the coalition movement.
“His emphasis on scrutinizing the character and intentions of leaders is a vital step toward ensuring credible and trustworthy leadership. I believe this approach fosters accountability and protects the nation from self-serving agendas.
“Furthermore, I strongly affirm that Nigeria urgently needs to be rescued from the current crisis of poverty and mismanagement of public resources.
“Major Al-Mustapha’s perspective resonates deeply, and I support his call for vigilance and reform to secure a better future for Nigeria, and the opposition must be united to confront these challenges,” the CUPP scribe said.
The coalition promoters are currently searching for a platform to adopt, with unverified reports listing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as the front runners. There are insinuations too that the Atiku-led group may resolve to register a new political party in time to contest against President Tinubu.
