Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been denied bail after being arraigned before a Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, over multiple criminal allegations, including assault, car theft, causing bodily harm, and resisting arrest.
Portable was arraigned on Monday on a nine-count charge filed by the Ogun State Police Command, arising from an incident that allegedly occurred on New Year’s Day at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of the state.
According to police prosecutors, the singer allegedly attacked his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, several police officers, and other individuals present at the scene during the incident.
In addition to the assault allegations, Portable is accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at approximately ₦12 million. The vehicle reportedly belongs to one of the alleged victims, identified as Ileyemi Damilola.
Confirming the arraignment, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said, “Yes, he was arraigned and remanded yesterday.”
During the proceedings, the prosecution presented testimony from two siblings of Ashabi Simple. However, Ashabi herself was absent from the court session.
Police further alleged that Portable obstructed and assaulted a female police officer, Inspector Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was performing her official duties.
Ruling on the bail application, the presiding judge declined to grant bail, stating, “The police officer allegedly assaulted must be present in court before any bail decision can be made.”
As a result, the court ordered that the singer be remanded in custody, with a fresh bail hearing scheduled for January 19, 2026.
The latest development follows the circulation of a viral video showing Portable in police custody, adding to the artist’s long history of legal controversies. The case continues to generate widespread public attention, drawing reactions from both supporters and critics.
